Risks Associated with Inexperienced or Untrained Doctors

We’ve seen a lot of horror stories regarding inadequate treatment. Often these stories stem from three types of physicians: endocrinologists, urologists or the family doctor. While these doctors may be excellent within a certain specialty or you may have an existing relationship with them, chances are a significant portion of their day is not dedicated to diagnosing andropause and providing treatment for low testosterone levels and other male hormone deficiencies.

Endocrinologists and Urologists

Specialists, including endocrinologists and urologists, should know the “hows” of this treatment. There are several potential problems with working with endocrinologists and urologists:

1. Endocrinologists’ practices are 90+ percent women and diabetics. Their practice consists of very few, if any men, which makes them less than ideal specialists for male hormone replacement.
2. Urologists are high production doctors and the brief time you get in the examination room with the doctor is generally not enough time to properly focus on individualized andropause treatment and hormone therapy options.
 

Family Doctors & Andropause Treatment

Family doctors encounter andropause and male hormone treatment as one small part of their practice. Approximately 25% + of our new clients contact reNEW MAN after starting treatment with their family doctor.  There are several problems that seem to manifest with family doctors treating andropause symptoms:  They--

• Typically under treat symptoms
• Do not test for estrogen conversion
• Do not protect glands, including pituitary and testicles, from shrinking
• Focus too heavily on ED (erectile disfunction) medications.  ED medications may provide an erection, but won’t provide you with the sexual desire needed to use it.

Overtreatment warning about Family Doctors: The “worst case” scenario from a family doctor is overtreatment. As illustrated above, family doctors do not always test, diagnose and monitor hormones in the same ways a physician will in the reNEW MAN national network of physicians. We have observed several dangerous examples of family doctors that were prescribing toxic levels of hormone medication to men. Family doctors, though familiar with your medical history and have the best of intentions, are not necessarily versed well enough in diagnosing and monitoring andropause symptoms and prescribing, safe, individualized male hormone replacement treatment.
