Testosterone Levels by Age
Testosterone levels start to decline in men at about age 26 to 28. Though individual men differ, the following is based on over 10 years of doing hormone for men. The numbers include both total and free testosterone. The more important number is the free testosterone. In all mammals, the majority of testosterone is bound to protein molecules floating around in the body doing absolutely nothing. It is only testosterone the body has freed up that is doing its “testosterone thing” in the body. The total is included here because it is the number most men are familiar with, and it is the number doctors focus on who really are not knowledgeable in male hormone testing and treatment. Symptom intensify as testosterone continues to decline. It is important to note that the rate of decline of testosterone levels in men is accelerating with the passage of time due to the presence of petrochemicals in the environment. Ten years ago we treated very few men under age 40. Now we regularly treat men age 30 to 35.
