Memory Loss in Men
Brief moments of memory loss in men are something we all experience, and usually isn’t something to be alarmed about: we’ve all forgotten someone’s name or misplaced our keys. At some point in the aging process, however, men can experience a slow down in their ability to process thoughts. Some refer to this as foggy thinking, short-term memory loss, or difficulty concentrating. When memory loss in men occurs the brain may not be acting as quickly to access memories or processes thoughts. If you are experiencing any form of memory loss, the problem may well be a natural age related decline in hormones called andropause sometimes referred to as male menopause

What Causes Memory Loss in Men?
Stress. When our bodies are under stress, cortisol is released to combat its effects. The brain, however, is a very complex organ requiring special nutrients and is particularly susceptible to the destructive effects of cortisol. Stress-cortisol can result in nutrients being depleted from the body in general and the brain in particular. If you are under significant stress you could have a hormone imbalance, and your memory loss might by a symptom of male menopause.
Imbalanced Hormones. Men find it surprising to learn that the largest concentration of testosterone and other hormone receptor sites is in the brain. Testosterone, thyroid, DHEA, cortisol all play a key role in the proper functioning of neurotransmitters. An imbalance in these Male hormones can cause neurotransmitters to underperform or malfunction making concentration difficult and causing memory loss in men. Because testosterone plays such a key role in mental function, men with low testosterone have a greater likelihood of developing cognitive impairment than do women at any age.
Why Should I Be Concerned about Memory Loss?
Memory loss in men can be a symptom of larger problems. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, conditions such as Alzheimer’s and dementia are more common among men than women. Recent studies also suggest that less than healthy hormone levels are a contributing factor to brain conditions like Alzheimer’s. Because the two primary hormones responsible for memory and cognition in men are testosterone and thyroid, your difficulty concentrating and foggy thinking may be due to hormonal imbalances. Hormones control the chemistry of the body—that includes the brain.
