Adrenal Fatigue in Men
Adrenal fatigue in men often called Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome is the result of adrenal gland exhaustion due to excess or unmanaged stress. When a man’s body is under stress the adrenal gland releases cortisol. If the body secretes excess amounts of cortisol due to prolonged or unmanaged stress, the adrenals become fatigued and produce too little cortisol. When the adrenal gland no longer produces enough cortisol to help the body deal with stress, adrenal fatigue occurs. Many men with adrenal fatigue live with a general sense of un-wellness, tiredness or “gray” feelings and have to use caffeine and other stimulants to get going in the morning. What is Adrenal Fatigue in Men?
Male Adrenal fatigue occurs when a man’s adrenal glands cannot adequately meet the demands of stress. The adrenal glands mobilize the body’s responses to every kind of stress (whether it’s physical, emotional, or psychological) through hormones that regulate energy production, immune function, heart rate, muscle tone, and other processes that enable you to cope with the stress. Prolonged stress can cause adrenals to become over stimulated, particularly in the production of cortisol, causing them to become fatigued. During adrenal fatigue your adrenal glands function, but not well enough to maintain optimal levels of cortisol. Most adrenal fatigue in men is the result of daily stress. However, there are other factors that can cause you to become even more susceptible to the causes of male adrenal fatigue, such as poor diet, substance abuse, too little sleept and rest, chronic illness and hormone imbalance in men to name a few.
Facts About Male Adrenal Failure
- Fact: Over-stimulation of your adrenals can be caused either by a very intense single stress, or by chronic or repeated stresses that have a cumulative effect.
- Fact: Between 50-80% of men experience some form of adrenal fatigue due to stress or stress-related problems.
- Fact: Cortisol plays a pivotal role hormone balance. For example, thyroid function in the body depends on balanced levels of cortisol.

Adrenal Fatigue Treatment for Men
Adrenal fatigue can wreak havoc in a man’s life. It can also take time to clear up as well. With each increment of reduction in adrenal function, every organ and system in your body is more profoundly affected. As adrenal fatigue worsens, changes occur in your metabolism, fluid and electrolyte balance, heart and cardiovascular system, and even your sex drive. Many other alterations take place at the biochemical and cellular levels in response to adrenal fatigue and compensate for the decrease in adrenal hormone cortisol and DHEA. Your body does its best to make up for under-functioning adrenal glands, but it does so at a price. The price is hormone imbalance and all its consequences.
- Use a good adrenal supplement to rejuvenate the adrenal glands
- Remove sources of stress from your life as best you can
- Learn basic stress control techniques such as deep breathing
- Ensure that you have healthy balanced hormones: testosterone in men, thyroid in men, DHEA in men, and if possible human growth hormone
- Be “creatively active”
- Use a “brain food” supplement—the brain is a special muscle – it requires special nutrients.
- Eat a sensible diet
- Use a good multiple vitamin
