What is Stress?
Generally, stress is defined as anything that is perceived as an emotional or physical threat, whether actual or imagined. Chronic stress is the body’s response to unpleasant events over which an individual perceives they have no control. Dealing with stress can become quite difficult the more a man believes he has no control over his work, relationships, health, etc.
What causes Stress?
In stressful situations the brain tells the adrenal gland to produce a male hormone called cortisol. Cortisol is called the “fight or flight” hormone because it triggers the release of adrenalin. Cortisol evolved in the body as a mechanism to help man deal with threats and other stressful situations. In modern times if you want to see a saber-tooth tiger, you have to go to a museum, but stress still finds you in our present day. Whether at work or at home, everyday you are bombarded with stressful situations. When dealing with stress becomes difficult for a man, symptoms of stress begin to show.
