Testosterone Cream - Increasing T Levels via Transdermal Creams

Testosterone starts to decline at about age 27 to 28.  Men will usually start feeling symptom at around age 35.  Some men will feel symptoms as early as age 30.  This condition is known as male menopause and also known as andropause.

Symptoms of Low T include:

  • Fatigue and general loss of energy and the desire to be active
  • Irritability
  • Depression and a loss of the zest for life
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Decreased Sexual function
  • Loss of metal sharpness
  • Inability to maintain or build muscle

Treating low testosterone (T) symptoms require replacing T to the levels it had when it was most healthy – the age 27 – 28 noted above.  As noted, one method of replacing testosterone is the use of topical cream.

How to Replace Testosterone

As much as possible, Testosterone should be replaced in small frequent doses that mimic the body’s natural production of testosterone.  T should never be taking by mouth and absorbed through the stomach.  Taking T by mouth can cause stress on the liver that can be very dangerous.  T should be introduced directly into the blood stream. There are a number of methods of testosterone replacement – injections, topical cream, patches, pellets, etc that meet this requirement.

Free T & Testosterone Cream for Men

The objective of any testosterone delivery is to raise the free testosterone level to somewhere in the area of 300pg.  Please note this is FREE T, not total T which is more commonly quoted when talking about T levels. The majority of T in the body is bound to protein molecules floating around in the body doing nothing. Only the testosterone that has been converted by the body to a free state is doing its testosterone thing in the body. Therefore “free testosterone” is the key number.

Transdermal Testosterone Cream

In preparing testosterone cream, testosterone is mixed in a transdermal cream by a compounding pharmacy and applied directly to the skin. The transdermal cream causes the T to be absorbed through the skin directly into the blood stream.

Testosterone Cream has the Advantage of:

  • Being the most flexible delivery method available and can be used twice each day to mimic the body’s natural production. The body in its natural state produces T twice each day – in the morning and evening
  • Meets every definition of a bio-identical* testosterone hormone.

Testosterone Cream also has certain Disadvantages:

The amount of T absorbed through the skin can vary depending on an individual’s skin, skin hydration and area of the body where testosterone cream is used.

Care needs to be taken that testosterone cream is thoroughly rubbed into the skin to avoid transference to family and loved ones.

Side Effects: Potential Testosterone Cream Side Effects

If done correctly there should be little to no side effects.  When starting hormone replacement therapy, the body has to adjust to levels it has not has for many years.  In the course if this adjustment, men might feel a bit more impatient with their environment – a feeling most men can identify with from their teen years.  This may last for a few hours to as long as two days. Men who have very low T levels are started on a lower dose for 1 to 2 weeks to minimize this possibility.

*Bio-identical T – If you were to place testosterone from your body and testosterone from a bio-identical source – usually from plants – under a comparison microscope, you would not be able to see a difference.
